  • DifficultyModerate

Light

To bloom, it needs bright indirect light. In low light it stays green but stops flowering. Avoid strong midday sun, which burns leaves and flowers.

Watering

Water when the top inch of soil is dry and let the excess drain. Its roots rot if the soil stays soggy.

Soil and pot

In the wild it grows on trees, so it needs a very airy mix with bark, coir, and perlite. Cut spent flowers off at the base of the stem.

Humidity and temperature

It enjoys medium to high humidity and warm temperatures. Keep it away from direct air conditioning.

In the Dominican Republic

It thrives outdoors here in partial shade. During the rainy season, watch for waterlogging and fungal spots on the leaves; if they appear, remove the affected leaves and improve airflow.
